This month is Referral Month at the Training Loft and as I watch our trainers walk past me sporting T-Shirts that say “Friends Don’t Let Friends Fail”, it go me thinking… What’s the biggest reason people don’t hit their fitness goals? Why do people fall off?

I know that this topic is not “sexy” and you might prefer to hear specific diet tips or training pointers, but hear me out on this one because this is the most common thing we see at the gym.

The #1 reason for failure to achieve fitness goals is the general procrastination, laziness, and poor mental attitude about what clients actually BELIEVE they achieve. In other words, success starts in your mind. The #2 reason for failure is ineffective training routines and poor dietary habits. These, of course, are going to be the “details” we take care of for you.

The reason I put mental attitude and beliefs in front of the actual details of training/nutrition is because your mental status is the true starting point for success in anything.

Getting this right means wrapping your brain around 6 things:

  1. DECIDING exactly what you want (how you want your body to look, how much confidence you want to feel, how much energy you want, internal health, etc).
  2. Making sure you actually have a BURNING DESIRE for what you want to achieve.
  3. Setting/documenting EXACT GOALS for what you want to achieve.
  4. VISUALIZING and “feeling” what you want to achieve as if you have already achieved it.
  5. BELIEVING that you CAN actually achieve it.
  6. Taking massive action NOW to start achieving – no procrastination.

In order to ever be successful at anything, all excuses need to go out the window… there is no such thing as poor genetics, no such thing as “not enough time”, and no such thing as “it’s just too hard”. there are no excuses for not achieving what you set out to achieve.

If you ignore this starting point, it is most likely that you will never get the fitness results that you’re looking for. This explains why so many people struggle and yo-yo back and forth with their fitness for years and years of frustration.

We realize that this is the stuff nobody ever wants to talk about, but getting it right before ever dealing with the “details” is a total game changer and we see it everyday.

So make sure to take a second look at those six points before you set another goal. Once you’re straight on the type of mindset that it’s going to take to achieve this goal, we can move on to the good stuff – hitting those goals and blowing your mind.
